It’s important to start early to ensure your child feels comfortable with dental care. The first visit should be scheduled by the time they reach 12 months of age or within 6 months of the appearance of their first tooth. Early visits help establish healthy habits and ensure proper dental development.
While it’s typically recommended to have your teeth cleaned every 6 months, some individuals may need more frequent cleanings. If you are prone to cavities or have a higher risk of dental issues, your dentist may recommend more regular visits to prevent decay and maintain optimal oral health.
Signs of bad teeth can vary but may include noticeable changes such as slight movement of teeth, widening gaps, or discomfort when biting. These could be signs of infection, bone loss, or gum disease. Also, pay attention to any changes in the fit of partial dentures or crowns. If you experience persistent tooth pain, sensitivity, or bad breath, it’s important to consult a dentist for a thorough examination. Regular dental check-ups help identify issues early and prevent further damage.
Cheese, milk, plain yogurt, and other dairy products. Cheese is another saliva maker. The calcium and phosphates in milk, cheese, and other dairy products, help put back minerals your teeth might have lost due to other foods.
Milk teeth, also known as baby teeth, are the first set of teeth that appear in early childhood. They are smaller, whiter, and there are only 20 in total. These teeth are eventually replaced by permanent teeth, which begin to emerge around the age of 6. Permanent teeth are larger, stronger, and designed to last a lifetime, with a total of 32 teeth. They are more durable and help support long-term oral health.
Timing isn't that important; however, if your baby still has no teeth by the age of 18 months, it may be time to see a pediatric dentist for an evaluation. In most cases, delayed tooth eruption is no real concern. However, it is still a good idea to get a specialist's opinion.
A dental cleaning is typically a painless procedure because there is no cutting or injecting involved. In some cases, the doctor may drill a tooth if there is a small cavity and put some filling or a sealant. In such cases, there may have tooth pain for a day or two and some teeth sensitivity as well.
Unlike plaque, you can't remove tartar with brushing and flossing. A dentist or dental hygienist must remove it during a professional dental cleaning. Another name for tartar is dental calculus.
Regular dental cleaning helps remove plaque and tartar buildup that can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. It’s essential for maintaining oral health and preventing infections. Professional cleanings, typically done every 6 months, ensure your teeth and gums stay healthy and free from harmful buildup.
